The EHP\u2019s objectives and priorities are defined by the Ministerial Conferences on Environment and Health that convene every 5\u20137 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the most recent Seventh Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, convened in Budapest, Hungary, in 2023, the EHP defined the future environment and health priorities and commitments for the WHO European Region. The <strong>Budapest Declaration on Environment and Health<\/strong> was adopted there.<br>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/europe\/initiatives\/european-environment-and-health-process-(ehp)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.who.int\/europe\/initiatives\/european-environment-and-health-process-(ehp)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EHP Partnerships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The EHP Partnerships mechanism was launched by Member States at the Seventh Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, held in Budapest, Hungary, in 2023.&nbsp;It serves as a practical, agile, thematic and action-oriented means to facilitate implementation of the commitments of the Budapest Declaration. The EHTF meets annually in the period between Ministerial Conferences on Environment and Health.<br>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/europe\/groups\/european-environment-and-health-task-force-ehtf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.who.int\/europe\/groups\/european-environment-and-health-task-force-ehtf<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Budapest Declaration (<a href=\"https:\/\/iris.who.int\/server\/api\/core\/bitstreams\/781a703d-e062-4eba-b11c-a224a7861abf\/content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">full document here<\/a>) we read among the others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We the ministers and representatives of Member States in the European Region of the World Health Organization (WHO), responsible for health and the environment, have come together at the Seventh Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, generously hosted by the Government of Hungary in Budapest from 5 to 7 July 2023, to accelerate our collective <strong style=\"color:black;\">commitment<\/strong> for healthier people, a thriving planet and a sustainable future; (page 1 of the Budapest Declaration)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition to urgent actions needed to address a wide range of pollutants, for which the health evidence is well-established and advancing, new and emerging issues, such as <strong style=\"color:black;\">electromagnetic radiation<\/strong>, require attention and response and addressing <strong style=\"color:black;\">multiple exposures<\/strong> to pollutants; (page 9)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We commit to:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>strengthening <strong style=\"color:black;\">interlinkages between environment and health,<\/strong> (page 3)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>adopting whole-of-government and <strong style=\"color:black;\">whole-of-society<\/strong> approaches, while paying particular attention to <strong style=\"color:black;\">vulnerable<\/strong> populations; (page 3)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will support and promote the activities of the European Environment and Health Task Force (EHTF) and its Bureau, as drivers for implementing the commitments taken in this and previous Declarations; (page 4) <br>Our commitment: We will strengthen the <strong style=\"color:black;\">interlinkages<\/strong> between environment and health, including by: promoting a transformative governance for environment and health, by strengthening mechanisms and tools for intersectoral <strong style=\"color:black;\">collaboration<\/strong>; (page 17)<br>Addressing the existing and emerging environment and health challenges requires additional, strong joint action, and concrete mechanisms to <strong style=\"color:black;\">improve<\/strong> coordination and <strong style=\"color:black;\">cooperation<\/strong>, while recognizing that different countries have different environment and health priorities, which reflect country-specific political, economic, social, cultural and natural conditions.<br>To this aim, the seventh Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health is launching a new agile thematic action-oriented mechanism \u2013 the \u201c<strong style=\"color:black;\">EHP Partnerships<\/strong>\u201d \u2212 to facilitate the implementation of the commitments taken in this Declaration; (page 19)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We establish the \u201cEHP Partnerships\u201d as a new, voluntary and flexible mechanism to accelerate uptake of new approaches; (page 4)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We will continue to promote the effective, inclusive, and action-oriented engagement of <strong style=\"color:black;\">civil society<\/strong>, academia, the private sector, local communities and other stakeholders in the <strong style=\"color:black;\">decision-making process<\/strong> at all levels; (page 4)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our aim is to enhance <strong style=\"color:black;\">access to information<\/strong> on and <strong style=\"color:black;\">public participation<\/strong> in environment and health related <strong style=\"color:black;\">decision-making;<\/strong> (page 4)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rapidly accumulating evidence shows how changes in the global environment result in profound and negative impacts on <strong style=\"color:black;\">nature and biodiversity<\/strong>. The interconnections between the health of humans, domestic and wild animals, livestock, plants and ecosystems are now recognised;(page&nbsp;11)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nature and biodiversity provide basic conditions to human <strong style=\"color:black;\">health<\/strong> and protect it through essential ecosystem services; (page 11)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our commitment: We will integrate nature and biodiversity in health policies and adopt the <strong style=\"color:black;\">One Health<\/strong> approach interlinking policies and actions related to health of humans, animals, and ecosystems, while taking into account benefits and risk associated with human interaction with nature, by:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>conserving, <strong style=\"color:black;\">protecting, restoring<\/strong>, and sustainably using and managing <strong style=\"color:black;\">natural ecosystems<\/strong> to protect human health, including from vector borne and zoonotic diseases, (page 12)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>promoting and strengthening the integration of the environmental dimension in the operationalisation of the <strong style=\"color:black;\">One Health<\/strong> approach; (page 12)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provision of essential public services and <strong style=\"color:black;\">safe built environments<\/strong> are central in preventing disease and promoting health and well-being. They are critical to enhance the resilience of human settlements to environment and health threats; (page 13)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our commitment: We will work in close partnership with cities and regions to support green, <strong style=\"color:black;\">healthy<\/strong>, resilient and equitable settings to the <strong style=\"color:black;\">benefit of all citizens<\/strong>, working across different levels of governments to maximise policy coherence and synergies among the different levels, by:<br>implementing <strong style=\"color:black;\">nature-based solutions<\/strong> and circular economy approaches; (page 15)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our commitment: We will strengthen the <strong style=\"color:black;\">interlinkages<\/strong> between environment and health, including by:<br>promoting a transformative governance for environment and health, by strengthening mechanisms and tools for intersectoral <strong style=\"color:black;\">collaboration<\/strong>; (page 17)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Addressing the existing and emerging environment and health challenges requires additional, strong joint action, and concrete mechanisms to <strong style=\"color:black;\">improve<\/strong> coordination and <strong style=\"color:black;\">cooperation<\/strong>, while recognizing that different countries have different environment and health priorities, which reflect country-specific political, economic, social, cultural and natural conditions.<br>To this aim, the seventh Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health is launching a new agile thematic action-oriented mechanism \u2013 the \u201c<strong style=\"color:black;\">EHP Partnerships<\/strong>\u201d \u2212 to facilitate the implementation of the commitments taken in this Declaration; (page 19)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The EHP Partnerships would entail the following main functions:<br>a. implementing and disseminating guidance, methods, tools and training packages for <strong style=\"color:black;\">integrated approaches<\/strong> in health and environment policy making, (page 20)<br>f. providing <strong style=\"color:black;\">international<\/strong> advocacy and <strong style=\"color:black;\">cooperation<\/strong>; (page 20)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The EHP Partnerships governance.<br>Each Partnership will have a lead country\/s and\/or organisation\/s from the EHP members. The Partnership can include representatives of other EHP members, as well as other intergovernmental organizations, international financial institutions, local authorities, <strong style=\"color:black;\">non-governmental organizations<\/strong>, private sector, academic and professional associations, and research institutions, of&nbsp;relevance to the EHP; Participation of non-state actors may be subject to an assessment in line with the WHO Framework for Engagement with Non-State Actors. (page 20)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Partnerships operate under the <strong style=\"color:black;\">EHTF<\/strong>, and their activities are to be agreed by the EHTF.
