By its very nature, an acceleration-focused legislative framework reduces the time and opportunity to generate, evaluate and incorporate long-term scientific evidence on impacts on public health and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Acceleration and the precautionary principle pursue different objectives.<\/strong> While acceleration aims to shorten deployment timelines, the precautionary principle requires sufficient scientific evidence where uncertainty exists. The proposal strongly advances the former while giving insufficient consideration to the latter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Should the legislative process nevertheless continue, we recommend adding a new point to Annex I:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>9. Grand Challenge 9: Health Impacts<\/strong><br><em>Development of independent methodologies for assessing environmental and public health impacts, including cumulative impacts and long-term monitoring, in accordance with the precautionary principle.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These recommendations also apply to edge computing infrastructure supporting 5G deployment.
