Children and digital hazards – Exciting webinar

Europeans for Safe Connections organised an interesting webinar on 13 February 2025 about relevant issues for the digital age. The event was titled Children and Digital Risks and was particularly aimed at EU policy makers and health professionals.

Excellent speakers addressed digital addiction and other psychosocial impacts from the use of screens including mobile phones and social media, as well as the adverse biological health effects of wireless radiation from devices in children. Dr Alberto Pellai – Social, emotional and cognitive impact of digital devices on minors’ health

Dr Pellai is a researcher at the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Milan, a physician and psychotherapist for children and adolescents. He has written 75 books on psychology.

Dr Fiorella Belpoggi – Cancer and reproductive risks

Dr Belpoggi is the former Scientific Director and Head of the Department of Pathology of the European Foundation of Oncology and Environmental Sciences at the Ramazzini Institute (Bologna). She has carried out short and long-term studies on the toxicity of various harmful environmental pollutants, including long-term research on electromagnetic fields from power lines and mobile phone base stations and their association with cancer.

Dr Stella Canna Michaelidou – Children are most at risk from radiation emitted by digital devices and their misuse: An approach to reducing exposure and safe use of technology

Dr Michaelidou is a toxicologist and a recognized expert on the effects of toxic substances on children’s health, food safety and risk assessment. She is the Chairperson of the Cyprus National Committee for Environment and Child Health. She is a former active Director General of the Ministry of Health and Director of the National General Laboratory.
